The sweet-sour contrast has defined Indian palates for centuries — from imli golis and street chutneys to tamarind-laced festival foods. Yet despite its deep cultural roots, this taste profile had never been translated into an Indian spirit. The difficulty wasn't inspiration — it was execution. No brand had cracked the technical challenge of bottling that balance. Until now.
Spiced Tamarind took over three years to develop. Adding tamarind to alcohol wasn’t the hard part. It was recreating the layered khatta-meetha balance at full strength without oxidation, degradation, or loss of depth, which took time.
Jigger's team worked with distillers, food chemists, and flavour scientists across Canada, the US, and India — running hundreds of formulations and refinements. The research extended beyond the lab. Anubhav Khanna, Co-Founder and CEO, made a dedicated trip to Thailand — where tamarind has long held a place behind the bar as much as on the plate. There, he spent time with mixologists who had spent years building cocktails around tamarind, studying how its sweet-sour complexity could move from the kitchen to the glass.
For Anubhav, who grew up between Amritsar and Srinagar, the starting the starting point was personal — imli golis, street-side chaat, and the khatta-meetha contrast that runs through everyday North Indian food culture. Just as Jigger's original lineup — Meetha Paan, Coffee Toffee, and Litchi Rose — transformed familiar Indian memories into spirits, Spiced Tamarind continues that mission through one of India's most universally loved taste experiences.
“Tamarind is everywhere in India — in the food, in our core memories, in the way we describe perfect taste balance. But nobody had bottled it as a spirit, and there was a reason for that. Capturing the sweet-sour profile at full strength, without losing the brightness or depth, is genuinely hard. It took us over three years, a dedicated research trip to Thailand, and hundreds of failed formulations. But when we finally got there, all those years of effort melted into a single sip. A taste of home."
