New code, effective January 1, 2027, supports development of precision ocular cooling as a potential new therapeutic category for chronic ocular surface pain.

CAMBRIDGE, MA, UNITED STATES, October 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- EyeCool Therapeutics, Inc. (“EyeCool” or the “Company”), a clinical-stage medical device company pioneering precision ocular cooling as a potential new therapeutic category for chronic ocular surface pain, today announced that the American Medical Association (AMA) has published Category III Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code 1115T for an ocular cooling procedure relevant to the Company’s investigational technology.

The new code follows acceptance of EyeCool’s application by the AMA’s CPT Editorial Panel at its September 2026 meeting. Code 1115T describes transconjunctival cooling directed to the long ciliary nerves for ocular pain. The code is scheduled to become effective on January 1, 2027. Publication of the code represents an important milestone in the development of the clinical and reimbursement infrastructure for ocular surface cooling. Category III CPT codes provide a mechanism for reporting emerging technologies, procedures, and services and can support the collection of utilization data as clinical evidence develops.

“Publication of a dedicated Category III CPT code for ocular cooling is an important step in the development of this potential new therapeutic category,” said Ruben F. Salinas, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer of EyeCool Therapeutics. “Once effective, code 1115T will provide a standardized mechanism to identify and track the procedure, adding an important piece of infrastructure as we continue advancing the ETX-4143 device through clinical development.”

EyeCool is developing ETX-4143, an investigational in-office device designed to deliver controlled, localized cooling to the ocular surface. The Company is evaluating the technology as a potential treatment for chronic ocular surface pain (COSP).

The coding milestone follows EyeCool’s continued development of the scientific and clinical foundation for precision ocular cooling, including published clinical studies evaluating ETX-4143. The Company is preparing for the next stage of U.S. clinical development.

Category III CPT codes do not establish or guarantee insurance coverage or payment, and inclusion in the CPT code set does not constitute AMA endorsement of a procedure. Publication of the code does not constitute FDA approval or clearance of EyeCool’s investigational device. Code 1115T is not reportable before its effective date.
