CABWHP honors the legacy of Black women past and present who’ve made an impact on their communities at the annual Women Who Dared awards

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, May 10, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ -- California Black Women’s Health Project is proud to announce that Mayor Karen Bass will be recognized as the "Woman of the Year" at the 2025 Women Who Dared Brunch and Awards Ceremony. The event will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the SLS Hotel Beverly Hills. This year’s celebration, themed “Rooted in Care & Truth: Nurturing Black Women’s Wellness,” honors the impactful leadership and dedication of Black women who are making meaningful contributions in their communities.

Mayor Bass' journey from healthcare provider to community organizer and public servant exemplifies a lifelong commitment to equity and wellness. As a nurse and physician assistant, she witnessed firsthand the disparities in healthcare access, leading her to found the Community Coalition in South Los Angeles to address systemic issues affecting underserved communities.

In her tenure as the first woman and second Black person to serve as Mayor of Los Angeles, Bass has prioritized addressing the city's homelessness crisis through initiatives like the Inside Safe program, which aims to provide housing and services to the unhoused population.

“Mayor Karen Bass embodies the spirit of the Women Who Dared through her unwavering dedication to public health, social justice, and community empowerment. Her leadership continues to inspire and effect meaningful change,” said Sonya Young Aadam, CEO of California Black Women’s Health Project.

Mayor Bass is one of four phenomenal honorees being recognized at Women Who Dared 2025. To learn more about the event, purchase tickets, or explore sponsorship opportunities, visit www.cabwhp.org/wwd or contact our event organizer, Brianna Holmes, at brianna@cabwhp.org.
