New Jersey's R&D Council Recognizes 911inform in Public Safety Category of 2026 Edison Patent Awards

New Jersey's highest honor for invention recognizes patented geospatial location technology in the Public Safety category.

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ, UNITED STATES, August 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- 911inform, a public safety technology company delivering real-time situational awareness and location intelligence to first responders, today announced it has been named a recipient of a 2026 Edison Patent Award by the Research & Development Council of New Jersey. The company was recognized in the Public Safety category for U.S. Patent No. 12,323,895 B2, "Geospatial physical location for emergency services calls using voice over internet protocol or multi-line telephone system," invented by 911inform Founder and Chief Executive Officer Ivo Allen.

The Edison Patent Awards are New Jersey's highest distinction for invention and innovation. This year's program recognizes 15 patents from 13 organizations, placing 911inform alongside honorees including Merck & Co., Nokia Bell Labs, Princeton University, Rutgers University, Siemens and Siemens Healthineers.

Solving the "wrong address" problem in emergency response

The patented technology addresses a long-standing and dangerous gap in emergency communications: when a 911 call is placed from a VoIP phone or a multi-line telephone system, the location delivered to dispatchers is frequently the organization's registered billing address rather than the caller's actual position, a discrepancy that can span buildings, campuses, or miles.

911inform's invention resolves the caller's true geospatial position and delivers a precise, dispatchable location, building, floor, room, and nearest point of entry, directly to the answering 911 center. The result is measured in the interval that matters most in an emergency: the time between a call being answered and a responder reaching the person who needs help.

The capability supports organizations working to meet federal dispatchable-location requirements under Kari's Law and the RAY BAUM'S Act, and is deployed today across schools and districts, higher education campuses, healthcare facilities, government buildings, and enterprise and venue environments.

"This patent started with a simple, unacceptable fact: someone calls 911 for help, and the address that reaches the dispatcher is wrong. We built the technology to close that gap, and to have New Jersey's R&D Council recognize it in the Public Safety category means a great deal, this work was invented, engineered, and proven right here in New Jersey, in partnership with the police departments and school districts that trusted us early."
- Ivo Allen, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, 911inform

About the Edison Patent Awards

Winning patents are selected by a committee of R&D Council board members, who evaluate each patent on the significance of the problem it solves, its utility and socio-economic value, its novelty, and its commercial impact. Every winning patent must have at least part of its technical or scientific work completed in New Jersey.

911inform and its fellow honorees will be recognized at the 47th Annual Edison Patent Awards Ceremony and Reception on Thursday, November 19, 2026, at Bell Works in Holmdel, New Jersey. This year's program carries the theme "Revolution Through Innovation," a tribute to Thomas Edison's conviction that persistent invention changes the world. Each recipient will be honored with the premiere of a tribute film celebrating their achievement.
