Mark Duda, the New York rock artist known for his gritty, emotionally charged songwriting, announces his forthcoming album, Love Is Murder.
The album is produced by Jimi Bones, who also produced Duda’s first two solo albums, Month of Sundays and Bodega Flowers. As on those records, Bones contributes guitar to the new project.
The Love Is Murder lineup features:
• Mark Duda — vocals, guitar
• Jimi Bones — guitar, producer
• Kenny Aaronson — bass
• Dennis Diken — drums
Bones has performed with Blondie, Joan Jett, and other major artists. Aaronson’s extensive credits include work with Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Dust, and others. Diken is best known as the drummer for The Smithereens.
Diken joined the project following the death of Thommy Price, the original drummer slated to play on Love Is Murder. Price had performed on Duda’s first two solo albums and had also worked with artists including Joan Jett and Billy Idol.
“Thommy was not only an incredible drummer, but a vital part of the sound and spirit of these records,” says Duda. “We were heartbroken. After his passing, we needed time to mourn before we could even think about finding someone else.”
Duda ultimately enlisted Diken, a longtime hero from the New York rock scene.
“Dennis is one of my heroes,” Duda says. “He brings an incredible sense of history, power, and musicality to the project.”
Diken and Aaronson tracked the album’s rhythm section together at Studio Mozart in New Jersey, with multiple Grammy nominee Kostadin Kamcev behind the controls. The sessions were recorded through Kamcev’s rare Neve console, originally obtained from the Apollo Theater in New York City.
The album continues Duda’s longstanding connection to New York City’s downtown music scene. Raised in New Jersey, Duda established his career in New York before eventually returning to New Jersey. That environment remains central to his music, which combines streetwise rock ’n’ roll with deeply personal themes.
At the heart of Love Is Murder are themes of grief, loss, devotion, mortality, and the emotional extremes of love. The album represents both a continuation of Duda’s previous work and a new chapter shaped by the loss of Price and the process of moving forward.
Further details, including the release date, label, first single, album artwork, and pre-order information, will be announced.
