WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, August 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The United States Hispanic Business Council (USHBC) announces its fervent commendation to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, approved the transaction of Charter Communications $34.5 billion acquisition of Cox Communications, allowing the merger to finalize following a series of federal and state-level reviews.

The CPUC unanimously approved the transaction, which includes two settlement agreements with the California Public Advocate’s Office and the California Emerging Technology Fund, as well as conditions centered on affordability, infrastructure investment, and digital equity. Examples of these conditions include new affordable broadband offerings for low-income households, $275 million toward network infrastructure modernization, $5 million for Community Development Financial Institutions to serve underserved businesses, workforce development and supplier diversity commitments, and more, coupled with enforcement measures.

Javier Palomarez, USHBC President & CEO, issued the following statement:

“I commend the California Public Utilities Commission for unanimously approving this transaction. Had it not been approved today, the merger may have had to undergo another review. Thankfully, Californian businesses, workers, and consumers are on the path to accelerated investment, stronger networks, and affordable broadband. For the past several months, the United States Hispanic Business Council has advocated for approval of the Charter-Cox merger, from going to the public to going before the Commission. This merger will deliver real benefits essential to the California Main Street economy and communities across the state, while also investing in the underserved communities too often left behind in the digital economy.”
