Electrification and industrial decarbonisation solutions win ONS Forum awards in Norway as Copernicus confirms July 2026 amongst hottest months on record.
OSLO, NORWAY, September 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Enerin AS was named winner of the Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) SME Innovation Award at the Forum held on 25 August in Stavanger, Norway, alongside Hitachi Energy, which received the Innovation Award. The winners were selected from a record-high number of applications in 2026.
Enerin was singled-out for its HoegTemp industrial heat pump, which produces steam up to 250°C from waste heat, seawater or ambient sources, while simultaneously being able to deliver deep cooling from the same machine. The machine can cut energy use by an estimated 50–70 per cent with zero emissions when using renewable-sourced electricity.
The jury pointed to the HoegTemp’s ability to tackle one of industry's hardest decarbonisation challenges — high-temperature process heat — with a single integrated system that replaces separate boiler and cooling infrastructure.
“For combining energy efficiency with industrial decarbonization, the Innovation Award Jury finds Enerin a deserving winner of the 2026 ONS Innovation Award,” the Norwegian ONS Foundation announced.
It also cited real-world proof: the technology is already demonstrated in Norway at Pelagia's plant in Måløy, alongside an earlier pilot at the IVAR Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant near Stavanger, where HoegTemp has supplied heat and cooling from the biogas stream since November 2023. A third pilot projected is located at GE Healthcare, Lindesnes.
Norway's Minister of Energy, Terje Aasland, presented the award, following Enerin's pitch session the previous day, in which Co-founder and Head of Concept Design Trond-Atle Asphjell and Chief Commercial Officer Ralph Groen presented the technology to a full room of the expert jury and audience.

The Minister visited the Enerin booth after the ceremony, which was hosted by the Norwegian Research Council.

By combining heat pumps, thermal energy storage (both heat and cooling) and biogas boilers, fossil-fuelled boilers can be phased out while requiring only a fraction of the energy and power capacity that electric boilers would require.
“Our heat pumps free up electrical energy and power capacity from electrified industrial sites, which is an effective way to improve capacity utilisation in the power grid and electricity generation,” Asphjell said.
Hitachi Energy won the award for its EconiQ LTA 420 which eliminates SF₆, a potent greenhouse gas, from 420 kV circuit breakers while maintaining grid performance, integrating seamlessly into existing systems.
Developing decarbonised solutions for industrial heat and cooling remains an international priority due to extreme weather and climate events witnessed in 2026. Copernicus and other global datasets confirmed that July 2026 ranked among the hottest months on record since 1850.
