NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, September 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Leading immersive entertainment company Eclipso is inviting New Yorkers to experience one of the greatest achievements in exploration history. Opening at Eclipso NYC on September 30, Everest: The First Ascent transports visitors back to 1953 to follow the historic expedition that saw Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay become the first people confirmed to reach the summit of Mount Everest.

Using cutting-edge free-roam virtual reality, visitors can move freely through the expedition as the story unfolds around them, creating the sensation of stepping directly into the events of 1953.

From Kathmandu and the culture of the Sherpa people to high-altitude camps, glaciers and the final summit approach, visitors will follow the journey of Hillary, Norgay and the Sherpa team while experiencing the immense scale, extreme conditions and uncertainty surrounding their historic mission.

Rather than simply watching the story unfold or viewing photographs of the first ascent, visitors are placed at the heart of the expedition, gaining a deeper understanding of the physical and psychological challenges faced by the climbers and Sherpas who lived it.

Developed with guidance from a scientific advisory board of Himalayan, mountaineering and cultural specialists, Everest: The First Ascent goes beyond the iconic photographs and documentaries that have carried the story across generations. Through immersive VR, audiences can experience the vastness of the Himalayas and gain a new perspective on what it took to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain.

Created by Jean Dallac and Benjamin Auriche, the immersive experience will first preview at Venice Immersive as part of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, running September 2–12, before arriving at Eclipso’s New York City venue on September 30, 2026.

Its selection for Venice Immersive places Everest: The First Ascent alongside leading international virtual reality, augmented reality and immersive productions, recognizing its innovative approach to bringing one of exploration history’s most extraordinary achievements to a new medium.

Everest: The First Ascent is the latest addition to Eclipso’s collection of historical and educational immersive experiences. From exploring the depths of the ocean in Titanic: Echoes From The Past to stepping inside the legendary world of Colosseum: The Legendary Arena, Eclipso now takes audiences to the roof of the world. Blending cutting-edge immersive technology with extraordinary stories from human history, Everest: The First Ascent brings one of the world’s greatest adventures to life.

Antoine Lieutaud, Founder and CEO of Eclipso, said: "Audiences no longer just have to hear or watch the story of the first ever ascent of Everest. Now they can become part of it. With this experience we want people to feel the humanity behind Hillary and Norgay's phenomenal achievement, to see the glaciers, feel the scale of the mountain and understand the challenges they faced along the way. Very few people will ever have the opportunity to experience Everest in this way, and we are excited to bring this extraordinary journey to New York City."

Jean Dallac says: “With Everest: The First Ascent, we wanted audiences to experience the first ascent of Everest not simply as a historical achievement, but as a human adventure. For 35 minutes, visitors are transported into the world of the 1953 expedition, alongside Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay and the Sherpa team, experiencing the beauty of the Himalayas as well as the cold, altitude, exhaustion and uncertainty of the climb. Our aim was to make audiences feel as though they were part of this extraordinary moment in history, without having to leave New York City.”
