Denver Personal Injury Lawyers secured a $1.6 million dog bite settlement for a client who suffered severe facial injuries in Colorado.
Obviously, you don't get $1.6 million unless something really bad happened, and that is exactly what happened to my 78-year-old client, who was simply visiting her insurance agent's office.”
DENVER, CO, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Denver Personal Injury Lawyers® has secured a $1.6 million settlement for a 78-year-old Colorado woman who suffered devastating facial injuries after being attacked by a dog at an insurance office.— Sean McQuaid
The woman was visiting her insurance agent for a routine appointment when an employee's dog suddenly jumped up and bit her face, tearing away a portion of her cheek. There were no warnings indicating that the dog was dangerous or likely to attack.
She was transported by ambulance to a hospital for emergency treatment. A portion of her cheek was recovered from the floor, placed on ice, and taken to the hospital with her. Because of the severity of the injury, doctors could not completely close the wound during the initial treatment.
Extensive Medical Treatment
The attack resulted in permanent facial injuries and required extensive medical treatment over the following year and a half.
Her treatment included facial reconstruction, skin grafting, nasal reconstruction, fat grafting, dermabrasion, steroid injections, and laser therapy.
Despite these procedures, she was left with permanent facial scarring, numbness, pain, swelling, sensitivity, and difficulty breathing through one nostril.
The physical injuries also caused significant emotional distress. The woman experienced anxiety, nightmares, flashbacks, difficulty sleeping, embarrassment, and increased self-consciousness about her appearance.
Before the attack, she was active and regularly spent time with friends and family. During her recovery, she became more withdrawn and required assistance from family members with everyday responsibilities.
Investigation Revealed Prior Dog Bite History
Denver Personal Injury Lawyers® conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The investigation revealed that the dog had previously bitten someone and that the owners had previously faced a charge related to harboring a dangerous dog. Despite the dog's history, it was regularly present at the insurance office where customers could encounter it.
Following the attack, the dog's owners were investigated, and the husband, who worked at the insurance agency, was charged with misdemeanor possession of a dangerous dog. The dog was also quarantined for ten days, and vaccination records were required.
Evidence concerning a dog's prior behavior, the owner's knowledge, and whether reasonable precautions were taken can be important in serious dog attack cases.
$1.6 Million Settlement
Denver Personal Injury Lawyers® documented the full extent of the woman's physical injuries, medical treatment, emotional suffering, and the impact the attack had on her daily life and family.
The case ultimately settled for $1.6 million in July 2026, without requiring the client to go through a lengthy civil trial.
